Living spiritually involves--among other things--listening to your inner wisdom, especially during times of decision making. Why is being in touch with your inner wisdom important? When you listen to the messages coming from within your body, you have the best resources available for taking great care of yourself. Logically, as you take better care of yourself, you increase the quality of your contribution to your relationship. By listening well to your body, you actually have more to offer.

Consider these examples. Eating poor quality foods, a lack of physical exercise, and not getting enough sleep. They all take their toll on you physically, mentally, and emotionally. All of these examples, however, come with some type of feedback. It usually involves some form of sluggishness. Not only do you feel the effects of your poor choices in your body, you can also see the negative effects on your relationship. Spiritual living has you making the proper adjustments so that you function at your best and, therefore, have more to give.

As a wonderful practice of spiritual living, DARE yourself to take better care of yourself. DARE is an acronym that stands for Diet, Attitude, Rest, and Exercise. You address the D or dietary component of DARE simply by adjusting the quality and quantity of foods and drink you ingest and being more mindful of the times at which you consume them. By listening to your body, you will confirm what many experts say. Fresh fruits and vegetables are best, and water is the healthiest drink. The best time to eat breakfast is after a gentle form of exercise in the morning. Listen to your body surrounding the times of your subsequent meals, and be sure not to eat within three hours of going to sleep. Also, listen to your body in determining portion amount.

The A in DARE is attitude. Having a positive attitude begins with thinking good thoughts. What are good thoughts? They are simply the results of focusing on positive solutions ONLY! Even when a so-called "problem" arises, you can address it directly by focusing exclusively on the solution. Other components of having a healthy attitude include being honest with yourself and others and being grateful for all of your gifts in life. In addition, the right attitude has you being most respectful of your partner. This means that you support his or her freedom to choose with the same sincere passion as if you were ensuring your own freedom.

The R in D.A.R.E stands for rest, for getting a good night's sleep. This involves going to bed at a reasonable hour to get the necessary amount of sleep that best recharges your body. Of course, rest also means taking healthful breaks throughout the day.

Finally, the E is for exercise, which involves partaking in physical activities to oxygenate the brain. Many types of physical exercise exist. Stretching and walking are the more common forms of gentle exercise. Sit-ups, push-ups, jogging, and lifting weights are more intense examples.

As you exercise, however, remember that your brain needs more than oxygen. It needs exercise, too. Mental exercise occurs by engaging in thought-provoking dialogue, reading self-help books, and enrolling in a stimulating class. Your ever-developing brain has a strong affinity for rich, nutritious "food" in the form creative conversation. These are just a few examples for living spiritually and taking great care of yourself and, in turn, taking great care of your relationship.
